Two AFGE locals filed a lawsuit in Boston federal court to block the EPA’s plan to end their contract and curb scientific staff protests.
The EPA, under the Trump administration, announced on September 14, 2026, that it will eliminate the emissions regulation that set limits on carbon‑dioxide and other greenhouse gases from coal and gas power plants. The removal ends the enforcement of those pollutant caps.
The EPA started a soil and groundwater cleanup at the South Gate Superfund site on August 25, 2026, marking the first phase of remediation for one of three long‑standing toxic industrial sites in southeast Los Angeles.
